The amount of traffic congestion can change the decision of car owners whether to take their car out or not. When car lanes are closed, fewer people will use cars because they want to avoid traffic. When car lanes are opened, more people will use cars because there is less traffic. This is a phenomenon called “induced demand”, and it is the reason why you can’t solve traffic congestion by adding more car lanes. One of the best examples of this is the Katy Freeway in Texas, a 26-lane highway that still suffers traffic jams.

The only real way to reduce traffic congestion is to increase the density of transportation, and almost every alternative to cars is better in this regard. Cars are highly inefficient at moving commuters because they take up more space-per-commuter than buses, trains, bicycles, and e-scooters.Įvery year, the city puts signs up on 58 Ave. in Lakeview reminding people to move their cars off the street for street cleaning. This year, the city decided to not put signs on our street, and instead, put them on Lakeview Dr.Įvery year, we park our cars in the alley behind our home. enter and exit the community via 37 St., not Lakeview Dr. My vehicles were ticketed, as were my son’s, both my neighbours and many others on our street. My neighbour has a designated disabled space, as we are both disabled, and she is a senior. I posted the fact that we were ticketed on the Lakeview Facebook page, and discovered that many others in the community are facing tickets.
